The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
